In the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed around 28 lives, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti has urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to take immediate action to protect Kashmiri students reportedly facing harassment across India. Expressing solidarity with the victims, Mehbooba Mufti stressed the urgent need for intervention amid rising threats and targeted violence against Kashmiris in several states.

Mehbooba Mufti spoke to Amit Shah on Thursday, extending her condolences to the families affected by the attack and raising concerns over the safety of Kashmiri youth. In a post on X, she mentioned asking Amit Shah to ensure swift action against those threatening students and traders, highlighting the climate of fear that has emerged in the wake of the violence.

Mehbooba Mufti Denounces Terror and Leads Protest

A day earlier, Mehbooba Mufti had condemned the attack and apologized to the people of the country on behalf of Kashmiris. She said the people of Jammu and Kashmir were ashamed of the incident and shared the sorrow of those who lost loved ones. Leading a protest march in solidarity, Mehbooba Mufti called the assault an attack on Kashmiriyat, stating it struck at the very soul of Kashmir’s tradition of hospitality and harmony.

Speaking to reporters, she emphasized that the victims were not just tourists, but guests, and demanded the swift identification and punishment of the perpetrators. She urged the Home Minister to ensure justice and prevent such tragedies from recurring.

Growing Alarm Over Harassment of Kashmiri Youth

Amid these appeals, Handwara MLA Sajad Lone also voiced concern over multiple incidents of harassment targeting Kashmiri students across the country. In a statement posted online, he claimed that students were being bullied, beaten, and even asked to vacate their rented accommodations in several cities.

Lone appealed to the Union government to step in immediately and guarantee the safety and dignity of all Kashmiri students living outside the region. His comments echoed Mehbooba Mufti’s concerns and underscored the growing urgency for authorities to act decisively in the face of communal backlash following the attack.
