A significant fire engulfed a shop in the bustling Chandni Chowk area of north Delhi on Thursday afternoon, prompting a swift response from the Delhi Fire Services (DFS). Fortunately, no injuries have been reported thus far.
DFS Chief Atul Garg confirmed receiving the distress call around 5 pm, notifying authorities of the blaze originating from Marwadi Katra, Nai Sadak in Chandni Chowk. Initially, 14 fire tenders were dispatched to the scene, with an additional 16 later joining the operation.
“Our teams are actively engaged in firefighting efforts at the site,” Atul Garg stated. “The fire is extensive, and it may take considerable time to completely extinguish the flames. Thankfully, there have been no reports of injuries at this time.”
According to sources, the fire expanded from Marwadi Katra market to Anil Market, causing significant damage. Additionally, the intensity of the blaze resulted in the collapse of a building situated behind the affected market area, exacerbated by the water pressure from firefighting efforts.
A spokesperson from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) confirmed the fire’s origin and the subsequent spread to adjacent areas, emphasizing that further details on the extent of damage and any casualties are awaited as the situation develops.
Authorities continue to work diligently to bring the fire under control, with efforts focused on preventing its spread to nearby establishments and ensuring the safety of residents and businesses in the vicinity.
