Maruti Suzuki has launched the fourth-generation Dzire, aiming to redefine the compact sedan segment with significant advancements in safety, design, and performance. The new Dzire, priced between ₹6.79 lakh and ₹10.14 lakh (ex-showroom), is set to compete with upcoming models like the Honda Amaze, expected in December.
A standout feature of the 2024 Dzire is its 5-star Global NCAP crash test rating, marking it as the first Maruti Suzuki vehicle to achieve this distinction. The sedan’s structure has been rated as stable, and it comes equipped with six airbags, an anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC), hill hold assist, and ISOFIX child seat anchors as standard, underscoring the company’s commitment to safety.
Design-wise, the new Dzire presents a fresh aesthetic, distinguishing itself from its hatchback counterpart, the Swift. While maintaining its previous dimensions—with a slight increase in height due to a new shark fin antenna—the sedan features a wider and deeper black grille complemented by a glossy top panel. The LED headlights have been redesigned with a crystalline treatment for a sharper appearance, and the fog lamps are now housed in updated casings. The side profile showcases dual-tone, machine-cut alloy wheels and a redefined C-pillar that slopes into a subtle spoiler lip on the tailgate. At the rear, new LED tail lights, referred to by Maruti as ‘trinity lamps,’ enhance the vehicle’s modern look.
Inside, the Dzire incorporates elements from the Swift, notably a 9-inch Smart Play Pro Plus infotainment screen in the top-tier trims. This system, while functional, has been noted for its somewhat subdued interface. High-end variants also offer features such as a 360-degree camera, electric sunroof, tire pressure monitoring system, wireless charging, and cruise control. The automatic climate control panel has been updated with a trapezoidal design featuring grey accents, consistent with Maruti Suzuki’s design language. The dashboard includes a grey panel with a 3D texture, adding visual interest, though some may find the absence of a central armrest less accommodating. The cabin’s light-toned fabric and cushioning provide a comfortable environment, with the rear seat offering adequate space for three adults. Rear passengers benefit from dedicated AC vents, USB charging ports, and an armrest, though the middle seat lacks a headrest. The boot capacity remains at 382 liters, sufficient for typical storage needs.
Under the hood, the Dzire is powered by a new 1.2-liter, three-cylinder engine, delivering 82 horsepower and 112 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and an automated manual transmission (AMT), with the CNG variant available exclusively with the manual gearbox. During test drives, the AMT variant exhibited mild vibrations at idle and higher RPMs, though the mid-range performance facilitated smooth city driving. The power delivery is linear, favoring fuel efficiency over aggressive acceleration. The Dzire achieves a claimed fuel efficiency of up to 25.71 kmpl for petrol variants and 33.73 km/kg for CNG models, positioning it as a leader in its segment. The AMT gearbox offers improved performance compared to others in the market, with minimal head nod during shifts, though gear changes are not particularly swift. The suspension is tuned for comfort, effectively absorbing road imperfections at lower speeds without transmitting harshness to the cabin. Ground clearance remains at 163 mm, and the steering, while light and somewhat vague at the center, provides predictable handling characteristics.
Overall, the 2024 Maruti Suzuki Dzire represents a significant evolution, combining enhanced safety features, a refreshed design, and efficient performance. These improvements align with Maruti Suzuki’s strategy to offer modern, reliable vehicles that meet the evolving expectations of consumers in the compact sedan market.
