Imphal, August 28 : Security forces are conducting a campaign against illegal firearms in Manipur, engulfed in flames of violence. The Assam Rifles and the Indian Army recovered a huge cache of weapons in a joint operation from a village in Manipur’s Churachandpur district.
Based on intelligence, security forces raided Gelmol village on Sunday, an area of ethnic violence between Kuki and Meitei. The jawans recovered from here one M4 assault rifle without magazine, one 9 mm pistol with magazine, one Sten machine gun, one 9 mm country-made pistol with magazine, one 0.22 mm pistol with magazine, improvised mortar, and a large quantity of ammunition. Ammunition has been recovered.
