The state’s athletes showcased exceptional talent, earning a grand total of 130 medals and setting a high standard for sportsmanship and excellence in the northeastern region of India.
A Close Competition
The games saw a fierce competition among the participating states, with Nagaland and Assam securing the 1st and 2nd runner-up positions, respectively. Nagaland’s athletes put up a commendable performance, bagging 134 medals, while Assam’s contingent, not far behind, managed to secure 139 medals. The medal tally for these states highlights the close competition and the high level of skill and dedication displayed by all athletes.
Honors and Awards
The spirit of the games extended beyond just medal counts. Sikkim was honored with the Fair Play Award, a recognition of their adherence to the highest standards of sportsmanship and ethical play. Similarly, Tripura was celebrated with the Spirit of Olympic Award, acknowledging their embodiment of unity and excellence throughout the competition.
Among individual accolades, Venuzo Dawhuo of Nagaland was bestowed with the Outstanding Sportsman Award, thanks to his remarkable achievement of winning gold medals in both athletics (shot put and discus throw) and belt wrestling in the 100+ category. In the women’s category, Tsuchoi. T also from Nagaland, was recognized as the Outstanding Sportswoman for her unparalleled success in securing four gold medals in athletics.
