Renowned illusionist David Copperfield is facing allegations of sexual misconduct from over a dozen women, spanning several decades, as reported by The Guardian on Wednesday.
According to the investigation, 16 women have come forward with accusations of inappropriate behavior by Copperfield, including instances where they were allegedly under 18 years old. Some of the women claimed that David Copperfield had drugged them before engaging in sexual activity.
The report, which covers incidents from the late 1980s to 2014, is based on interviews with over 100 individuals and examination of police and court records.
David Copperfield’s legal team refuted the allegations, stating that the magician has “never acted inappropriately with anyone, let alone anyone underage.”
This is not the first time David Copperfield has faced such accusations. In 2018, Brittney Lewis accused him of drugging and sexually assaulting her three decades earlier, a claim that David Copperfield denied. Brittney Lewis is among the 16 women mentioned in The Guardian’s report.
In response to the recent allegations, David Copperfield’s lawyers emphasized that no complaints were filed against him when the alleged incidents occurred. They also addressed claims of grooming, asserting that David Copperfield had a legal and consensual relationship with one of the women mentioned in the article.
David Copperfield’s association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein has also drawn scrutiny. However, his lawyers stated that David Copperfield was unaware of JeffreyEpstein’s crimes until they were reported in the media.
AFP reached out to David Copperfield’s legal representatives for comment but received no immediate response.
