Polling for the 5th phase of the Lok Sabha elections is currently underway across 49 constituencies, with voter turnout reaching 10.28% by 9 am. The election process has seen significant activity and some tensions, particularly in West Bengal.
In Barrackpore, BJP MP and candidate Arjun Singh engaged in a heated exchange with a Trinamool Congress (TMC) worker in North 24 Parganas. Arjun Singh alleged that TMC workers were preventing voters from leaving their homes to cast their ballots. “Women voters are being stopped. The police are not doing anything. There is this man named Boney who is scaring people and not allowing them to come out of their homes. People are being stopped from voting. I have complained about this to the State Election Commission,” Arjun Singh told reporters.
Earlier, Arjun Singh accused his TMC rival, Partha Bhowmick, of distributing money on Sunday night to influence voters ahead of the fifth phase of polling. He confirmed that a formal complaint had been lodged with the Election Commission regarding Bhowmick’s actions.
As the voting continues, the situation in Barrackpore remains tense, highlighting the high stakes and intense competition in the current phase of the Lok Sabha elections.
