In a significant development, the Delhi Police arrested 19-year-old Annu Dhankar, known as “Lady Don,” in connection with the cold-blooded murder of Aman Joon, a 26-year-old man, who was shot dead at a Burger King outlet in West Delhi’s Rajouri Garden in June this year. Annu Dhankar, who had been on the run since the incident, was apprehended near the India-Nepal border in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri district while attempting to flee the country.
According to the police, Annu Dhankar, a resident of Rohtak, Haryana, played a critical role in the murder. She lured Aman to the Burger King outlet under the pretext of meeting him, only for him to be ambushed by gunmen. On June 18, three men, including associates of gangster Himanshu Bhau, arrived at the fast food joint on motorcycles. While one accomplice remained outside, two entered the establishment and fired approximately 40 rounds at Aman from close range, killing him instantly as he sat with Annu Dhankar inside.
Investigations revealed that Annu Dhankar, a close associate of notorious gangsters Himanshu Bhau and Sahil Ritolia, had befriended Aman via social media to set him up. Her connections to the gang were deep, as she had been promised a visa and other documents to immigrate to the United States in exchange for her involvement in their activities. During her interrogation, Annu Dhankar admitted that Bhau and Ritolia had promised her a luxurious life abroad, further luring her into their criminal network.
Annu Dhankar’s name had also surfaced in connection with an indiscriminate shooting at the Matu Ram Halwai Shop in Gohana, adding to her involvement in violent crimes. On the day of the murder, Annu Dhankar informed Bhau of Aman’s arrival at the Burger King outlet, setting the stage for the fatal attack.
Following the murder, Annu Dhankar fled to Mukherji Nagar to collect her belongings and began a weeks-long evasion from law enforcement. She traveled from Delhi to Chandigarh, then to Katra via Amritsar, and later moved to Haridwar and Kota, changing locations frequently to avoid capture. During her time on the run, Bhau provided her with financial assistance through a money exchange shop.
On October 22, Annu Dhankar was informed by Bhau that the situation had “cooled down,” and she was instructed to leave her residence. She was then directed to head toward the Indo-Nepal border, where she would supposedly cross over to Nepal and eventually reach the USA via Dubai. However, the police tracked her down and arrested her on October 24.
This arrest marks a key development in the investigation into Aman’s murder, with police continuing to pursue leads on Annu Dhankar’s accomplices and the larger criminal network involved.
