The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Karnataka Police is intensifying efforts to locate the mobile phone of Janata Dal (Secular) MP Prajwal Revanna, which is alleged to contain explicit videos of women. Sources revealed that the phone, which Prajwal Revanna claims was lost, is considered crucial evidence in the ongoing sex tapes case.
Prajwal Revanna asserted that he lost his mobile phone a year ago and lodged a complaint with the local police and through the Karnataka State Police (KSP) app. The complaint was reportedly filed by Prajwal Revanna’s assistant, Bharaj Raj, on March 29 last year. Despite the Holenarasipur police registering a Non-Cognisable Report (NCR) and conducting extensive searches, the phone has not been found.
The SIT has obtained the phone’s IMEI number and has expedited the investigation to locate the device. However, there are concerns that the phone may have been destroyed, which could lead to additional charges of evidence tampering against the JD(S) MP.
Prajwal Revanna, who is running for re-election from the Hassan constituency as an NDA candidate, was taken into custody until June 6 by a Bengaluru court on Friday. He had left for Germany in April as the sex tapes case surfaced, prompting multiple lookout notices at international immigration points. He was arrested upon his return to Bengaluru early Friday morning and taken to the CID office for interrogation.
In a symbolic gesture, a team of five female police officers, led by a woman IPS officer, carried out Prajwal Revanna’s arrest. The JD(S) MP faces three rape charges and has released a video message earlier this week, declaring his intention to cooperate with the investigation and asserting that the charges against him are false. He claimed to have experienced depression and isolation following the scandal and suggested that political forces were targeting him in Hassan.
