Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah took to social media on Monday to address ongoing controversies surrounding a land dispute involving his wife, Parvathi. The issue pertains to allegations of irregularities in an application submitted by Parvathi to the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) seeking an alternative site after the alleged illegal acquisition of her land.
In a bid to clarify the situation, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah released a video showing a portion of the application letter covered with whitener. The video was intended to counter claims made by BJP and JD(S) leaders about the nature of the application. The blurred section of the letter, which had been obscured with whitener, was revealed to contain a request for land in “either Devanur Third Stage or any other equivalent layout formed later” by MUDA.
The letter in question, written by Parvathi, stated that the authority had not provided compensation for the acquired land. She requested that MUDA allocate a plot of land similar in size to the original property, measuring three acres and 16 guntas, in one of the specified areas or alternatively, return her original land. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah emphasized that there was no administrative note, order, or approval related to the letter, and that it was solely a request for compensation or land replacement.
The controversy erupted after opposition parties accused Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his wife of manipulating the application. BJP and JD(S) leaders criticized the use of whitener on the document and alleged that it was an attempt to conceal a request for land in a different location. The opposition also sought an investigation into the matter, leading to a request for the Karnataka Governor to authorize a probe. The Governor consented to the investigation on August 16, intensifying the political uproar in the state.
In his social media post, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah dismissed the criticisms as baseless and accused the BJP and JD(S) leaders of using the issue to advance their political agendas. He urged them to “take off their hate glasses” and view the matter objectively. The Chief Minister also challenged the legal experts in the opposition to explain the alleged falsehoods surrounding the case.
The MUDA case has sparked significant political controversy, with activists and opposition parties demanding accountability and transparency in the handling of land compensation and allocation processes. The outcome of the investigation and the political ramifications of the case are closely being watched as Karnataka prepares for future political developments.
