With the Paris 2024 Olympics looming just months away, India’s javelin sensation Neeraj Chopra exudes confidence as he gears up to grace the grand stage once again in the French capital later this year.
Returning from his rigorous training stint in Potchefstroom, South Africa, Chopra expressed optimism about his form and preparation. “This is the best I have felt in a long time,” he revealed to SAI Media, acknowledging the fruitful training sessions while emphasizing the distinction between training and competition.
Since clinching the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, Neeraj Chopra has continued to make waves in the javelin world. Securing silver at the 2022 World Championships and subsequently clinching gold at the following edition, Chopra showcased his prowess with a personal best throw of 89.94m. His stellar performances extended to winning the 2022 Diamond League title and successfully defending his Asian Games crown last year.
Reflecting on his current mindset, Chopra expressed his eagerness to sustain the positive momentum as he gears up for the Paris Olympics. “All in all, I have been in a great space and want to carry forward that momentum from May onwards,” he affirmed, underlining his determination to excel on the global stage once more.
Amidst anticipation and expectations of defending his title at the Paris Olympics, Chopra acknowledged the inevitable pressure but stressed the importance of maintaining focus. “Managing pressure will be critical once you enter the Games Village and start focusing on your event,” he acknowledged, emphasizing the unparalleled passion and pride associated with donning the Indian jersey.
Embarking on his next phase of training at the Gloria Sports Arena in Antalya, Turkey, Chopra will be accompanied by his coach Dr. Klaus Bartonietz and physio Ishaan Marwaha. While he is yet to compete this season, Chopra’s return is eagerly anticipated at the Doha leg of the 2024 Diamond League season in May.
