Renowned actor and BJP Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut recently expressed her views on work culture in India, advocating for the normalization of what she termed as an “obsessive work culture.” Kangana Ranaut’s statement came in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on dedication to the nation during his address to his team at the PMO in Delhi, where he reiterated the goal of a developed India by 2047.
Taking to her Instagram story, Kangana Ranaut shared the PM’s address and wrote, “We need to normalize obsessive work culture and stop with the waiting for the weekends and crib about Mondays memes.” She further emphasized, “That’s all western brainwashing; we are not a developed nation yet, we can’t afford to be bored and lazy at all.”
Kangana Ranaut’s remarks coincide with a broader discourse on work culture in India, sparked by comments from industry leaders like NR Narayana Murthy and Nilesh Shah. NR Narayana Murthy’s suggestion of a 70-hour workweek to boost productivity stirred controversy, while Nilesh Shah advocated for embracing a 12-hour workday culture common in countries like China, Korea, and Japan.
Nilesh Shah, Managing Director of Kotak Mahindra Asset Management Company, highlighted the potential for accelerated growth with an 84-hour workweek, drawing parallels to the work ethic in East Asian countries. He stressed that increased productivity could lead India towards a future devoid of poverty, transitioning individuals to middle and upper-income levels.
Kangana Ranaut’s foray into politics as a BJP candidate in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections adds weight to her advocacy for a robust work culture. Winning her electoral debut from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, Kangana Ranaut’s victory further positions her as a voice shaping the narrative around work ethics and national development.
