Prabhas and director Nag Ashwin’s sci-fi extravaganza, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, has emerged as a powerhouse at the global box office, crossing the remarkable milestone of Rs 500 crore within its opening weekend. The film’s phenomenal success has also secured its entry into the coveted Rs 300-crore club in India, driven by rave reviews and robust audience reception across multiple languages and formats, including 2D and 3D.
Vyjayanthi Movies, the production house behind the epic, proudly announced the monumental achievement, stating, “500 crores #Kalki2898AD #EpicBlockbusterKalki (sic).”
Not confined to Indian shores, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ has made waves internationally, notably becoming the highest-grossing Indian film in its debut weekend in North America. According to Prathyangira Cinemas, the film grossed an impressive $10.5 million (approximately Rs 87 crore) during its opening weekend, setting new benchmarks overseas.
Director Nag Ashwin expressed gratitude to the audience in the USA for their overwhelming support, which significantly contributed to the film’s record-breaking success.
On its first Sunday at the box office, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ continued its stellar performance, with early estimates indicating a staggering Rs 85 crore nett collection in India alone on June 30. The Telugu version led with Rs 36.8 crore, while the Hindi adaptation soared with Rs 39 crore on the same day.
With this, the four-day cumulative collection of ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ in India has now surged to Rs 302.4 crore nett, further solidifying its position as a box office juggernaut.
Directed by Nag Ashwin, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ blends elements of science fiction with Indian mythology, featuring a star-studded cast including Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan in pivotal roles.
