Fujikawaguchiko town in Japan is taking action against unruly tourists by erecting a massive mesh barrier across the road from a famous Mount Fuji viewpoint. The barrier, measuring 2.5 by 20 meters, aims to deter tourists from littering, trespassing, and violating traffic rules.

Construction of the barrier, initially delayed due to material delivery issues, is now underway. Local officials and residents expressed frustration over tourists’ disregard for rules, prompting this measure to protect public spaces and nearby establishments.

The influx of tourists in Japan has raised concerns, with overcrowding and disrespectful behavior becoming prominent issues. In response, measures like entry fees for popular attractions and online booking systems are being implemented to manage tourist numbers and ensure safety.

Mount Fuji, a symbol of Japan and a UNESCO World Heritage site, attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors annually. However, concerns about safety and environmental impact have prompted authorities to take proactive steps to address overtourism in the region.

Residents and officials hope that these measures will help strike a balance between welcoming tourists and preserving local communities and natural landmarks.
