In a significant stride towards space collaboration, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Mauritius Research & Innovation Council have inked a pivotal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly embark on a satellite development project. This strategic partnership aims to harness the power of space technology to drive progress in crucial sectors such as agriculture, environmental monitoring, and disaster management.

The momentous MoU signing ceremony unfolded in the presence of V Muraleedharan, Minister of State for External Affairs, who is currently on an official visit to the Mauritius. Speaking fervently about the agreement, Minister Muraleedharan expressed his anticipation, stating, “It’s a moment of great excitement to witness the signing of this MoU, which paves the way for an exhilarating journey into space exploration, transcending the boundaries of our skies.”
He further underscored India’s unwavering commitment to channel its space, science, and technology prowess for the greater global good, asserting, “This MoU exemplifies India’s commitment to utilizing its capabilities in Space, Science & Technology for the betterment of humanity. I am confident that this collaboration will further enhance the cooperative spirit between India and Mauritius.”
On the margins of the visit, Minister Muraleedharan held a meeting with Mauritian President Prithvirajsing Roopun in the vibrant city of Port Louis. During this meeting, he conveyed warm greetings on behalf of the President of India Droupadi Murmu. Post the meet, the Minister also engaged with the thriving Indian community in Mauritius, commemorating their dedication to preserving rich traditions and culture while applauding their dynamic contributions to the host nation.
Further, in a move to fortify the ongoing 75th-anniversary celebrations of diplomatic relations between India and Mauritius, Minister Muraleedharan also inaugurated the ‘UTSAV – India-Mauritius Shopping Carnival’ in Port Louis. The event serves as a shared platform for businesses from both countries to forge meaningful connections and foster economic ties.

Apart from bilateral engagements, Furthermore, during the course of the visit, the Minster will also saw the inauguration of two transformative development projects. First in line was the Henrietta 8 MW Solar Power Plant, symbolizing India’s steadfast commitment to green energy and sustainable growth in Mauritius. This initiative is intricately aligned with India’s ‘SAGAR’ vision (Security and Growth for All in the Region) and is poised to bolster the island nation’s renewable energy sector.
Next on the agenda was the unveiling of a state-of-the-art Sports Complex, brought to fruition through Indian Grant assistance. This state-of-the-art facility is set to act as a catalyst for sports development and cultural exchange, promoting an active and healthy lifestyle in Mauritius.
In commemoration of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, a joint commemorative postage stamp is also scheduled to be unveiled, accentuating the enduring friendship and cooperative spirit shared by India and Mauritius.
It it a pertinent to note that Mauritius, holds a pivotal role as India’s maritime neighbor in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), and Minister Muraleedharan’s visit is poised to strengthen the deep-rooted historical and cultural ties that underpin this enduring alliance.
