Mumbai Indians’ wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan has expressed that he is not currently preoccupied with the prospect of being selected for the T20 World Cup. Following his impressive performance against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 11, Kishan clarified that he is solely focused on contributing to his team’s success in the ongoing IPL 2024 season.
Ishan Kishan’s innings of 69 runs off 34 balls against RCB showcased his prowess with the bat, adding to his tally of 161 runs in the tournament thus far. Despite his commendable form, the cricketer emphasized during a post-match press conference that his primary objective is to take each match as it comes and support his team to the best of his abilities.
Having encountered a few challenges in international cricket preceding the IPL, including the loss of his BCCI central contract earlier in the year, Kishan remains a contender for the T20 World Cup squad. However, he remains unfazed by external pressures and is determined to enjoy his game without succumbing to unnecessary stress.
Addressing queries about proving himself to selectors, Kishan asserted that he harbors no such intentions and has learned to prioritize enjoying the sport over external validation. With an impressive strike-rate of 182.95 in IPL 2024, Kishan’s contributions on the field speak volumes about his capabilities.
As Mumbai Indians gear up to face Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium on April 14, Kishan’s focus remains firmly on delivering impactful performances for his team, steering clear of distractions related to World Cup selection speculation.
