In the midst of ongoing political turbulence in the region, Iranian Foreign Minister H. Amirabdollahian announced today that he conducted extensive discussions with key figures including Sheikh Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the political bureau of the Hamas movement, Ziyad al-Nakhalah, the secretary general of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement, Sameh Shoukry, Egypt’s foreign minister, and Josep Borrell, the European Union’s foreign policy chief.
The focal point of these discussions, as articulated by the Iranian Foreign Minister, was the urgent need to halt the Israeli military oppression in Gaza, particularly in the aftermath of the October 7 terrorist attack. The attack, which occurred on that fateful day, resulted in approximately 1,200 casualties in Israel. In response, Israel launched a military counterattack, leading to the tragic loss of over 24,000 Palestinian lives in Gaza.
In an official statement, the Iranian Foreign Minister emphasized, “We discussed and negotiated the latest ideas on the ground to cease the Zionist regime’s genocide in Gaza, provide extensive humanitarian aid to the region, and halt the forced migration of people living in Gaza and the West Bank.”
“Despite the staggering number of lives lost and the extensive material damage inflicted upon Gaza, the spirit of resistance among the Palestinian people remains unyielding and steadfast in their quest to reclaim their rights,” he added.
Further, in his statement, the Iranian Foreign Minister underscored Tehran’s stance. He said, that war is not the solution to the ongoing crisis, advocating for diplomatic efforts to bring about a lasting and just resolution to the situation.
Additionally, the Iranian Foreign Minister also addressed importance of maintaining the security of shipping routes. A concept, he said, that is inseparable from the shores of the Mediterranean to the Red Sea.
