Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian, informed India’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, of Tehran’s commitment to allowing Indian government officials to meet with the 17 Indian crew members aboard the cargo ship, MSC Aries, recently seized by the Iranian military near the Strait of Hormuz.
Following a phone call between S. Jaishankar and his Iranian counterpart, Amirabdollahian assured that Tehran is actively addressing the situation concerning the seized vessel. He affirmed that arrangements for Indian officials to meet with the crew will be facilitated promptly.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry stated that during the call, Amirabdollahian emphasized the imperative of reducing tensions and defended Iran’s actions as legitimate defense, particularly in reference to recent events involving Israel.
He called upon India to maintain its engagement through international forums, such as the UN Security Council, to address the conflict in Gaza and advocate for peace and security in the region.
S. Jaishankar stressed the importance of de-escalating tensions and urged all parties to exercise restraint, emphasizing the need for diplomatic resolutions to the ongoing tensions between Iran and Israel.
Additionally, S. Jaishankar communicated with his counterparts from Iran and Israel separately, expressing concerns over the escalating tensions between the two nations. He underscored the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving regional conflicts.
