In a move aimed at improving pedestrian safety and ensuring smooth traffic management in one of Noida’s busiest corridors, the Chief General Manager, accompanied by senior project officials, conducted a detailed inspection of the under-construction Skywalk project on 4 November 2025. The inspection covered key sectors — 1, 2, 14, and 15 — where the project is being developed to provide seamless connectivity between metro stations, commercial complexes, and office areas.

The project, being implemented under the Integrated Traffic and Pedestrian Mobility Plan, is designed to significantly reduce congestion and prevent pedestrian-related accidents during peak hours. During the inspection, the officials assessed ongoing construction work, safety protocols, and infrastructure readiness, emphasising the importance of timely completion and adherence to quality standards.

Focus on Pedestrian Safety and Seamless Mobility

The inspection team, led by the Chief General Manager, reviewed the progress of the Skywalk structure located near the Indian Oil flyover, a key junction connecting several densely populated and commercial sectors of Noida. The project is intended to serve as a modern, elevated pathway linking metro commuters and pedestrians directly to key transit points, thereby minimising the need to cross busy roads.

Officials highlighted that the Skywalk will not only enhance pedestrian convenience but also address recurring traffic congestion issues that have long affected the area, particularly during morning and evening rush hours. The structure has been designed with dual lanes for smooth pedestrian flow in both directions, complemented by glass lifts and escalators to ensure accessibility for senior citizens and differently-abled individuals.

During the inspection, the Chief General Manager instructed engineers and contractors to ensure that all safety measures are strictly followed during the construction process. The presence of proper lighting, security surveillance, and anti-skid flooring materials were emphasised as crucial elements of the Skywalk’s design. The team was also directed to coordinate closely with the traffic police to plan diversions, ensuring that construction activities do not disrupt vehicular movement.

According to officials, the Skywalk will help prevent potential road mishaps, as the corridor currently witnesses heavy footfall from nearby corporate offices and shopping complexes. Once operational, it will facilitate a safe and uninterrupted route for thousands of daily commuters, thereby contributing to a more organised traffic system across the city.

Infrastructure Expansion and Vision for Smarter Urban Connectivity

The Skywalk project forms part of Noida’s broader initiative to promote smart infrastructure and pedestrian-friendly urban planning. With rapid commercial growth and increasing urban density, authorities have prioritised infrastructure that balances mobility with safety and sustainability. The ongoing Skywalk construction aligns with this vision, integrating modern design with practical utility.

The Chief General Manager noted that the development of such facilities reflects the administration’s commitment to building an inclusive and efficient cityscape. He stressed that the project’s success will depend on timely execution and interdepartmental coordination among civic bodies, engineers, and urban planners. “The goal is to ensure that residents and visitors experience convenience and safety without facing unnecessary delays or risks while commuting,” he remarked during the inspection.

Officials further discussed how similar pedestrian connectivity projects are being considered across other high-traffic zones in Noida and Greater Noida to replicate the model. These skywalks and elevated walkways are expected to connect metro stations, bus stops, and marketplaces, making the city’s mobility network more cohesive.

In addition to easing pedestrian congestion, the project aims to contribute to environmental goals by encouraging walking and reducing short-distance vehicular trips, which in turn will help lower carbon emissions and improve local air quality. The initiative also complements the broader objectives of Noida’s Smart City Mission, which emphasises sustainable urban growth through digital integration, energy efficiency, and mobility infrastructure.

The inspection concluded with directives to expedite work at critical points and ensure that the Skywalk is operational within the stipulated timeline. Officials reiterated that once completed, the Skywalk will not only decongest major intersections but also become a landmark model for pedestrian infrastructure in the National Capital Region.
