On Tuesday, an IndiGo flight from Delhi to Varanasi received a specific bomb threat, prompting immediate evacuation and stringent security measures. The airline confirmed that all passengers were safely evacuated through emergency exits, and the aircraft was relocated to an isolation bay for thorough inspection.
IndiGo stated, “Flight 6E2211 from Delhi to Varanasi received a specific bomb threat at Delhi airport. Following necessary protocols, the aircraft was moved to a remote bay as per airport security guidelines. All passengers were safely evacuated, and the flight is currently undergoing inspection. Post completion of all security checks, the aircraft will be repositioned back in the terminal area.”
The flight, scheduled to depart at 5:35 am, was delayed due to the incident. A senior official from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) disclosed to ANI that a tissue paper with the word “bomb” written on it was found in the aircraft’s lavatory, triggering the security response. The inspection revealed the threat to be a hoax.
An aviation security team and a bomb disposal squad are on site to investigate further. This incident follows a recent surge in bomb threat communications targeting various institutions and locations, all of which have been false alarms.
Just a day before, Mumbai’s Taj Mahal Palace hotel and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport received bomb threats that proved to be unfounded. Similarly, several colleges in Delhi University and luxury hotels in Bengaluru experienced similar threats, all of which were hoaxes.
In early May, nearly 100 schools in Delhi, along with schools in Noida and Lucknow, also received fake bomb threats via email. These incidents have prompted increased vigilance and stringent security protocols across various sectors.
