India’s nuclear energy sector has gained significant global recognition, with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi commending its rapid expansion and dynamic growth. Speaking at the Raisina Dialogue 2025, Rafael Mariano Grossi highlighted India’s prominent role in the global nuclear landscape and emphasized the close cooperation between India and the IAEA on regulatory frameworks, technological advancements, safety protocols, and security measures.
During his address, Rafael Mariano Grossi remarked, “The IAEA is in close cooperation with India. The country’s nuclear sector is growing at an impressive pace, making it one of the most dynamic in Asia and the world. Our collaboration with India spans multiple aspects, including regulatory standards, technological innovations, and security frameworks.”
The recognition from the UN nuclear chief underscores India’s increasing influence in the global nuclear domain. As the country continues to expand its nuclear energy infrastructure, partnerships with international organizations like the IAEA play a crucial role in ensuring that development remains safe, sustainable, and aligned with global best practices.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also engaged in discussions with Rafael Mariano Grossi on the sidelines of the Raisina Dialogue. Taking to social media platform X, Jaishankar shared details of their conversation, stating, “Delighted to meet DG @iaeaorg @rafaelmgrossi at #Raisina2025 today. Discussed nuclear safety and non-proliferation issues.” Rafael Mariano Grossi responded positively, acknowledging India’s role as a key player in international nuclear affairs and a strong partner of the IAEA in nuclear science and technology for peace and development. He further expressed optimism about strengthening cooperation in the future.
In addition to regulatory and safety aspects, Rafael Mariano Grossi also emphasized India’s contribution to nuclear workforce development. Highlighting a recent initiative, he posted on X, “Nuclear energy is expanding, particularly in Asia, and a strong workforce is essential to sustain it. India is an important nuclear nation, and @IAEAorg’s partnership with @DAEIndia GCNEP will help train the next generation. Congratulations on the new Nuclear Engineering Course & School for Nuclear Tech/Sciences.”
Rafael Mariano Grossi’s participation in the Raisina Dialogue, India’s premier conference on geopolitics and geo-economics organized by the Ministry of External Affairs, further solidified India’s position in the global nuclear landscape.
