In a major employment push, the Indian Railways has announced that it will offer more than 50,000 new appointments in the financial year 2025-26, providing a significant opportunity for job seekers across the country. The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) have already issued over 9,000 appointment letters in the first quarter of this financial year, indicating the momentum towards fulfilling its hiring plans.
The Railway Ministry shared that since November 2024, the RRBs have conducted Computer-Based Tests (CBTs) for over 1.86 crore candidates under seven different notifications, covering 55,197 vacancies. This extensive testing initiative, the ministry noted, has laid the groundwork for a robust recruitment drive set for the upcoming year.
Focus on Accessibility and Transparency
In a bid to make the examination process more accessible and fair, the RRBs have introduced several new measures. Candidates are now being allotted examination centres closer to their places of residence, with special provisions made for female candidates and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD). This approach has required the identification of additional exam centres and the mobilisation of additional human resources to ensure exams are conducted in a fair and transparent manner.
To enhance transparency and prevent malpractices, the ministry revealed that E-KYC-based Aadhaar authentication has been utilised for candidate verification during the large-scale examinations, achieving over 95% success in identity authentication. Additionally, jammers have been deployed across all RRB exam centres to eliminate the possibility of cheating using electronic devices.
Structured Recruitment Plans for Upcoming Years
The Railway Ministry highlighted that the RRBs have issued 12 notifications since 2024, covering 1,08,324 vacancies as part of its structured recruitment plan aligned with its annual calendar. The commitment to offering over 50,000 appointments in FY 2025-26 is part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the workforce within the Indian Railways while maintaining high standards of transparency and efficiency in its recruitment processes.
Furthermore, the ministry indicated that the recruitment momentum will continue beyond the upcoming financial year, with plans to offer more than 50,000 additional appointments in FY 2026-27, providing long-term employment opportunities to eligible candidates and strengthening India’s largest public sector employer.
Through these initiatives, the Indian Railways aims to streamline its recruitment processes while ensuring accessibility and fairness, ensuring that deserving candidates from diverse backgrounds can contribute to the country’s railway infrastructure and services in a transparent and structured manner.
