Indian marathoners fell short of achieving the qualifying standards for the Paris 2024 Olympics marathon events during the New Delhi Marathon 2024 held in New Delhi yesterday.

Despite their remarkable performances, Indian athletes missed the mark by just a few seconds.

While the qualifying time for the men’s marathon is set at 2:08:10, and at 2:26:50 for women, Indian athletes who won gold in the respective men’s and women’s categories completed the race with times of 2:14:40 (Men’s: Gopi T) and 2:52:25 (Women’s: Ashwin Madan Jadhav) thus loosing out their chance for the 2024 Olympics berth.

New Delhi Marathon 2024: The Winners’ Sheet

The ninth edition of the New Delhi Marathon 2024, have witnessed remarkable moments from Indian Athletes.

Delving onto the winners’ sheet in the men’s race from yesterday’s event, there was just a narrow margin between the first and second winners. Gopi T clocked 2:14:40 to win the gold medal, narrowly edging out Srinu Bugatha, who achieved a new personal best of 2:14:41 to finish second. Akshay Saini secured third place, crossing the finish line in 2:15:27.

It is pertinent to note that both Gopi and Bugatha are former winners of the New Delhi Marathon. While Gopi claimed the title in 2017, Bugatha was the champion in 2021.

Further, in the women’s race, Ashwin Madan Jadhav dominated proceedings, finishing with a time of 2:52:25. Thakor Nirmaben Bharatjee and Divyanka Chaudhary secured second and third place respectively, but the race was a one-sided affair with Ashwin Madan Jadhav leading the pack.
