A resolution to celebrate Indian Independence Day as the National Day of Celebration of the World’s two largest democracies. The resolution has been introduced in the House of Representatives by a group of US lawmakers led by Indian-American Congressman Shri Thanedar.
The resolution emphasizes the belief that the United States and India share strong democratic values. The relations between the two countries are based on democratic values and both wish to promote global democracy. Thanedar’s resolution was co-sponsored by Congressman Buddy Carter and Brad Sharman. It is expected that this partnership will also contribute peace, stability and prosperity.
The visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 22, generated a new level of trust and understanding between the two countries. Both share commitment to freedom, democracy, pluralism, the rule of law, and respect for human rights, the resolution says. The day should be celebrated with Indian living in USA.
