Kathmandu : Nepal Cricket Association has appointed former India cricketer Monty Desai as the head coach of the national cricket team. After the recommendation of the Cricket Association, the National Sports Council gave its consent to Monty’s name and gave the green signal for the appointment.
Monty, who has been the head coach of teams like West Indies, Canada, and UAE, has a long association with Nepalese cricket. In the year 2015, when Monty was the batting coach, Nepal played the T20 World Cup qualifying match for the first time. Monty has also been the head coach of the Rajasthan Royals team of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The Nepalese cricket team is currently preparing to play a tri-series with Scotland and Namibia starting on 14 February. Monty was called to Nepal last week and engaged in training work but his official appointment took place today.
Earlier, Manoj Prabhakar was the head coach of the Nepali cricket team but he resigned from his post in December last year. Since then the search for a new coach was on. The Nepal Cricket Association has signed a two-year deal with Monty.
