In preparation for the highly-anticipated Paris 2024 Olympics, Indian athletes will have the advantage of being provided with specially curated Indian cuisine to ensure a homely and comforting experience during the intense competition.
A recent report from the Indian Express unveiled the details of the menu that will be available to Indian athletes at the Athletes Village during the Paris Olympics. The menu includes steamed Basmati rice, dal, roti, aloo-gobi, Indian-style chicken curry, and various South Asian broths, offering a taste of home to the athletes amidst their rigorous schedules.
Shiva Keshavan, the chef de mission, disclosed that the Indian Olympic Association presented the proposed menu to the organizers in Paris during a meeting, which was met with approval. Keshavan emphasized the importance of providing Indian athletes with familiar and nutritious food options to enhance their performance on the global stage.
According to Keshavan, the inclusion of Indian cuisine in the menu was a result of careful consideration and collaboration with nutritionists to meet the athletes’ dietary requirements. He stressed the significance of ensuring that athletes feel comfortable and supported, especially when competing against elite athletes from around the world.
Traditionally, Indian athletes have had to settle for East and West Asian cuisines during international competitions, which often did not meet their nutritional needs. With the introduction of a specially curated Indian menu at the Paris 2024 Olympics, athletes can now look forward to enjoying familiar and nourishing meals while representing their country on the Olympic stage.
