In the midst of ongoing global challenges, India and the United States are gearing up for a crucial 2+2 meeting set to take place in New Delhi around November 9-10.
The government sources confirming to ANI said, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin and Secretary of State Antony Blinken will meet External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi for the summit.
Discussions to be covered:
The discussions during this high-level meeting are expected to revolve around the strengthening of India-US ties and exploring opportunities for further cooperation. However, the agenda may expand to include deliberations on other pressing global issues.
One key topic that could feature prominently is the volatile situation in the Middle East, particularly the Israel-Hamas conflict and the devastation it has particularly caused. Additionally, the Russia-Ukraine conflict might also be on the table for discussion along with other key issues.
U.S.-India 2+2 Intersessional Dialogue:
It is worth mentioning that on the sidelines of the India-US 2+2 Dialogue, both nations recently concluded the U.S.-India 2+2 Intersessional Dialogue in September. During these talks, leaders from both sides discussed various aspects of defense cooperation.
On the defense front, Assistant Secretary Ely Ratner and his Indian counterparts reviewed the progress made in implementing the Roadmap for U.S.-India Defense Industrial Cooperation. They welcomed advancements in new co-production initiatives and pledged to expedite negotiations on Security of Supply Arrangements and Reciprocal Defense Procurement agreements.
The discussions also touched upon opportunities to enhance interoperability and logistics cooperation, including joint maritime engagements in the Indian Ocean region. The two nations expressed a desire to expand their collaboration in the realms of space and cybersecurity.
About 2+2 Dialogue:
The 2+2 dialogue format entails meetings between the foreign and defense ministers of India and its strategic allies to address critical strategic and security matters. These dialogues facilitate a deeper understanding of each other’s strategic concerns and sensitivities, allowing both parties to build a more integrated and robust strategic relationship, especially in today’s rapidly evolving global landscape.
India conducts 2+2 dialogues with four key strategic partners: the United States, Australia, Japan, and Russia. Notably, the other three countries are also India’s partners in the Quad, an important strategic forum.
