In a significant step towards enhancing bilateral defence cooperation, Giridhar Aramane, the Defence Secretary of India, co-chaired the annual India-UK Defence Consultative Group (DCG) meeting on November 24, 2023, alongside his British counterpart, David Williams, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence of the United Kingdom. The meeting, held in New Delhi, served as a platform for both nations to deliberate on a range of regional security matters, review ongoing defence collaboration, and explore future avenues of partnership.

Among the key topics discussed were regional security issues, the progress of existing defence cooperation initiatives, and the potential for collaboration in the vital Indian Ocean Region. Additionally, the two sides delved into proposals for defence industrial cooperation, with a particular focus on missile systems and Electric Propulsion, highlighting the commitment to bolstering technological advancements in defence.
A notable aspect of the discussions revolved around plans for intensified interactions and joint activities within the maritime domain. Both nations expressed their intent to prioritize joint exercises, enhance Maritime Domain Awareness, and strengthen information exchange mechanisms to bolster maritime security.
The meeting also acknowledged the commencement of the India-UK 2+2 Foreign and Defence Dialogue, a platform designed to promote comprehensive discussions on foreign policy and defence matters. The inaugural of the same (India-UK 2+2 Foreign and Defence Dialogue) was held in New Delhi on 16 October 2023.
Furthermore, both sides lauded the increased pace of military-to-military engagements across various domains, underlining their commitment to deepening bilateral ties.
In a poignant gesture, David Williams also paid his respects to the fallen heroes by laying a wreath at the National War Memorial, honoring the sacrifices of the Bravehearts.
