The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has opened applications for eligible members to serve as observers for the upcoming Chartered Accountancy exams scheduled in January 2025. The Foundation and Intermediate exams are set to take place from January 11 to January 21, 2025, with the exception of January 20. Interested candidates who meet the eligibility criteria can apply online at the official ICAI website, http://observers.icaiexam.icai.org, once the application window opens on October 25, 2024. The last date for submitting applications is November 20, 2024.
The primary responsibility of the observers is to ensure the secure collection and distribution of question paper packets from designated banks to the examination centers. Additionally, observers must remain at their assigned examination centers or branches of the bank until the examination concludes to oversee the proper execution of exam protocols.
The selection process will allow candidates to choose their observer assignments, with further details to be announced in the last week of December 2024 and the first week of January 2025. The role comes with a daily honorarium of Rs 3,000 per session, along with a conveyance reimbursement of Rs 350 for ‘A’ class cities and Rs 250 for other cities.
To qualify for the observer role, candidates must meet specific eligibility criteria. The applicant’s name must have been on the Register of Members as of July 1, 2022, and they must be under the age of 65. Importantly, neither the observer nor their relatives or dependents should be appearing in the January 2025 CA examinations. However, appearing for the ISA – AT exam will not disqualify a member from becoming an observer.
Applicants must not be involved in coaching students for any exams or tests conducted by ICAI, either in private coaching institutions or through ICAI’s regional councils or branches. Additionally, candidates with pending disciplinary proceedings, or those convicted by a court of law, are ineligible. Observers should also not be serving as elected or co-opted members of ICAI’s Council, Regional Councils, or the Managing Committee of any ICAI branch.
The ICAI invites eligible members to apply online and check the official website for further details regarding the application process and eligibility requirements. The observer role offers a vital opportunity for ICAI members to contribute to the smooth functioning of the January 2025 exams while receiving fair compensation for their efforts.
