It has been almost a week since the coup in Bangladesh. This is the first time that any statement of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has come out after she fled the country. It was being said that after resigning, she already wanted to address the people of Bangladesh, especially the agitators, but it could not happen at that time. Now Sheikh Hasina has written a letter to the people of Bangladesh in which she has said that if she had agreed to America, she would have remained in power today.
Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said in this letter that she will definitely return to her country Bangladesh. The letter further states that if I had given control of St. Martin Island in the Bay of Bengal to America, then I might have remained in power, Bangladeshis are requested not to be misled by the fundamentalists, your fear has been exploited.
She said, ‘I resigned so that I do not have to see the procession of dead bodies. If I were in the country today, perhaps more lives would have been lost, so I stepped back. I came with your victory, you were my strength but you did not like me, so I left power.’
Let us tell you that St. Martin’s Island in the Bay of Bengal is spread over an area of three square kilometers. It is Bangladesh’s only coral island and is known for its enchanting natural beauty. About 3,700 people live on this island whose main work is fishing, rice and coconut cultivation and seaweed harvesting. Exports are also made to Myanmar from here. If any country makes its base on St. Martin’s Island, then China can be directly challenged and it can also help in reducing China’s growing influence on this region.
In this letter, Sheikh Hasina has also clarified about the word Razakar. Let us tell you that the word Razakar means volunteer but in Bangladesh it is considered a derogatory term because those who supported the Pakistani army during the Bangladesh Independence War were called Razakars. On this, Sheikh Hasina has clarified that, “I would like to reiterate to my young students that I never called you Razakars. My words have been twisted, I request you to watch the entire video of that day, your fear has been used, I am sure that one day you will definitely realize this.”
Soon after the arrival of this letter, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son said that my mother has not made any such statement, this is a fake statement. However, a few weeks before the arrival of this letter, that is, even a few weeks before resigning, Sheikh Hasina had said that if I allow any country to build an airbase in Bangladesh, I would have no problem. This proposal came from a foreign person.
