A major terror attack in Hyderabad was prevented thanks to the swift action of security forces who arrested two suspects believed to be planning bomb blasts in the city. The men, Siraj Ur Rehman and Syed Sameer, allegedly connected to an ISIS module based in Saudi Arabia, were caught following a coordinated counterintelligence operation between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana police. Authorities recovered explosive materials during raids, highlighting the serious threat the duo posed. Their arrests come shortly after the tragic Pahalgam terror attack, intensifying the focus on terror networks targeting India.
Suspects’ Arrest and Links to ISIS Module
The two men, Siraj Ur Rehman (29) and Syed Sameer (28), were apprehended after intelligence inputs led to a high-profile joint operation. Rehman was first caught in Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, and his interrogation led to the subsequent arrest of Sameer in Hyderabad. Both are now in custody and will be produced before the court soon. Officials revealed that the suspects are believed to have close ties with an ISIS cell operating out of Saudi Arabia, which reportedly instructed them on carrying out attacks in Hyderabad.
During searches at their premises, police seized various explosive components such as ammonia, sulphur, and aluminium powder. Reports suggest that Rehman procured these materials in Vizianagaram as part of their terror plan. The involvement of an ISIS module coordinating from abroad points to the transnational nature of this threat and the challenges security agencies face in dismantling such networks.
Context of Heightened Security After Pahalgam Attack
This foiled plot comes just weeks after the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 innocent lives. That attack targeted Hindu tourists visiting the scenic Baisaran Valley and provoked a strong response from India, including Operation Sindoor—a cross-border retaliation strike targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The recent arrests underscore the ongoing vigilance and intensified counterterrorism efforts by Indian security agencies to prevent similar attacks on Indian soil.
The joint efforts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana police in this operation demonstrate enhanced coordination among state and central agencies to tackle terror threats proactively. The arrests highlight the growing role of foreign terrorist modules in directing local operatives, emphasizing the need for continued intelligence sharing and cooperation to safeguard cities like Hyderabad.
