A decade ago, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) assumed power in Haryana with the slogan “Haryana Ek, Haryanvi Ek,” signaling their commitment to uniting the state and its people under the banner of “good governance through systemic change.” Over the past ten years, the BJP has constructed a robust governance framework built on this foundation, fundamentally transforming the state’s administrative landscape.
One of the most significant achievements of the BJP’s two terms in Haryana has been the eradication of the notorious “Perchi-Kharchi” system. This corrupt practice, which once dominated the recruitment process for government jobs, has been completely dismantled, restoring trust and dignity among Haryanvis and significantly enhancing the state’s image.
Today, families across Haryana, regardless of their location or economic status, believe in the principle that merit is the sole criterion for school admissions and government jobs. The days of recommendations and bribes influencing these processes are a thing of the past. The Haryana government has strictly enforced its principle of “no expense, no slip,” particularly benefiting the most disadvantaged sections of society. As a result, young people from impoverished and marginalized families now have the opportunity to achieve their long-held dreams of securing government employment.
A Decade of Change: From Corruption to Meritocracy
Under previous administrations, government jobs in Haryana were often auctioned off to those with connections to political leaders and officials. The interview process was reduced to a mere formality, with outcomes predetermined based on favoritism rather than merit. The “Kharchi-Perchi” system was infamous for allowing recruitment lists to be issued directly from leaders’ offices, leaving eligible candidates with little hope of securing a position.
This system disproportionately affected poor families, who found it nearly impossible to secure government jobs without connections or bribes. However, under the BJP’s governance, recruitment lists are now issued without the influence of corruption, bringing joy and hope to many households across the state. Today, children of laborers and rickshaw drivers are securing government jobs based on merit, a development that fills the hearts of ordinary Haryanvis with pride.
Mission Merit: A Transparent Recruitment System
A decade ago, the BJP government launched “Mission Merit,” a comprehensive initiative aimed at introducing transparency into the government job recruitment process. This system has become a model for other states to follow. A notable example comes from Risalia Kheda village in Sirsa district, where 35 young people successfully secured government jobs, demonstrating the government’s commitment to clear intentions and honest policies.
Haryana’s citizens vividly recall a time when newspapers were filled with reports of which political leaders’ relatives had secured government jobs. Today, media stories focus on how children from humble backgrounds have achieved these positions through merit and hard work. The transformation that has occurred in Haryana over the past decade under BJP governance is nothing short of remarkable.
Restoring Faith in Governance
The eradication of corrupt practices like the “Perchi-Kharchi” system has restored faith in Haryana’s governance. The emphasis on merit has opened doors for many disadvantaged families, ensuring a fairer and more equitable system for all. The BJP’s dedication to transparency and meritocracy has not only improved the state’s administrative processes but also uplifted the spirits of its people, providing them with newfound hope and opportunities.
As Haryana continues to move forward, the changes brought about by the BJP’s governance serve as a testament to the power of systemic reform and the impact of a government committed to the principles of fairness and equality.
