Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], October 7 (ANI): Himachal chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Saturday inaugurated the Centre for Science Learning and Creativity (CSLC) near Shoghi in Shimla.

CSLC has been established at the cost of Rs 11 crore, according to an official statement.

This institution is a joint initiative of the Himachal Pradesh Council for Science, Technology & Environment (HIMCOSTE) and the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) and boasts 60 interactive science exhibits, thematic galleries, and informatics displays, housed within the Institutional Block, said the official statement.

As per the press release, the Himachal CM, during the inauguration ceremony said, “Fully funded by the state Government, this Centre would revolutionize science education, particularly for students hailing from rural backgrounds.”

He further showed a keen interest in the exhibits displayed at the centre, developed in collaboration with the NCSM, and dedicated science educators and said that it was due to the unwavering commitment of the Government that such a centre has been developed in the State, the foundation stone of which was laid way back in 2014 during the congress regime, mentioned the official release.

CM Sukhu also highlighted that a modern Planetarium, set to be operational by the end of 2024, will play a pivotal role in promoting astronomical studies.

The press release further mentioned that the Himachal CM acknowledged the pivotal role played by Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, often termed as the ‘Father of Information Technology and Telecom Revolution of India’, in India’s remarkable progress in the IT sector.

The release highlighted further facilities incorporated into the centre including a ‘Hall of Fame’ highlighting the accomplishments of the leading scientists of the country, a library and a YouTube studio.

The hostel facilities here will make it possible for both the students and the teachers to dedicate much of their time in engaging themselves in science-related activities in an effective manner, said CM Sukhu at the inaugural ceremony.

CM Sukhu further emphasized the state government’s commitment to revolutionize the field of education, aiming to elevate Himachal Pradesh to the top ranks of literacy in the country, according to the official statement.

The official statement further mentioned that CM Sukhu, during the event, also launched the official website of the Centre and honoured the winners of the science quiz and painting competition.

Himachal Public Works Minister, Vikramaditya Singh, expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for this transformative centre in his assembly constituency and further emphasized the centre’s crucial role in nurturing scientific talents and fostering curiosity for science among the youth, said the press release.

Himachal Chief Secretary, Prabodh Saxena, during the event, said that this program realizes the vision of former Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi for promoting science in modern India.

He further said that the centre would become a significant tourist attraction as well.

As per the press release, the event also saw ICICI bank Zonal Head, Haminder Gujral, presenting papers to the Chief Minister for rural connectivity projects, contributing vehicles for disaster relief, and providing off-grid solar systems for border villages.

Additionally, Chief Executive Officer, Rajesh Gupta and Director Hemant Popli of Sharnagat Construction Company presented a cheque of Rs 5 lakh to the Chief Minister towards ‘Aapda Rahat Kosh’ on the occasion, said the official statement.

The event was also graced by the presence of other dignitaries including Additional Secretary of Environment and Science, Satpal Dhiman and Chancellor of Shoolini University, Professor PK Khosla. (ANI)
