Protests erupted at an engineering college in Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh, following the discovery of a hidden camera in the girls’ hostel washroom, which was allegedly used to record and circulate videos among students. The incident has led to significant unrest and demands for justice from the student body.
The hidden camera was found by a student at Gudlavalleru College of Engineering, igniting concerns about student safety and privacy. The situation escalated on Thursday night as hundreds of students gathered to protest, chanting slogans like “we want justice.” The protesters are demanding strict action against those responsible for both installing the camera and distributing the videos.
In response to the incident, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has ordered an inquiry. A case has been filed, and a final-year student has been detained in connection with the alleged crime. The police have taken this student into custody, though their identity has not been revealed. According to reports from the students, more than 300 videos were recorded and circulated among the boys’ hostel. The college administration, however, has denied the presence of any hidden cameras in the girls’ hostel. They have stated that they are cooperating fully with the police investigation and have promised to implement additional security measures on campus.
The police have examined various electronic devices, including laptops and mobile phones of the accused, in the presence of students and college staff. Despite their efforts, no incriminating evidence was found.
The protest continued, Krishna District Collector DK Balaji and Superintendent of Police Gangadhar Rao visited the college to address the situation and ensure that order was maintained.
