In a targeted airstrike on Saturday, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) eliminated Eid Hassan Nashar, a high-ranking commander of Hezbollah’s Medium-Range Rocket Unit, in a precision strike near Beirut. The IDF confirmed the strike in a post on X (formerly Twitter), where they announced the dismantling of key Hezbollah infrastructure and the elimination of its prominent commanders.
Eid Hassan Nashar held critical roles within Hezbollah, notably overseeing the Surface-to-Surface Rocket Unit, which was responsible for launching medium-range rockets. The IDF stated that Eid Hassan Nashar had been integral to Hezbollah’s military operations, calling him a “veteran commander.” He had also served as the Deputy Commander of Hezbollah’s Badr Unit. In addition to Eid Hassan Nashar, the IDF confirmed the deaths of other commanders from Hezbollah’s Precision Missile Unit, which was involved in recent attacks on central Israel.
Simultaneously, the IDF launched a precision strike on a Hezbollah surface-to-air missile launcher storage facility, located roughly 1.5 kilometers from Beirut’s international airport. The IDF reported that the facility posed a serious threat to both Lebanese and international airspace. The strike was part of ongoing efforts by Israel to degrade Hezbollah’s military capabilities in Lebanon. In their statement, the IDF emphasized their commitment to continuing operations aimed at neutralizing Hezbollah’s potential threats.
This latest attack comes after a series of successful intelligence-based operations by the IDF, including strikes against leaders of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and Hamas in Lebanon. The IDF had announced the deaths of Nidal Abdel-Aal, head of the PFLP’s Lebanon branch, and Imad Odeh, head of the PFLP’s military office in Lebanon. Both were killed in a separate airstrike coordinated by the IDF and Israel’s Internal Security Agency (ISA). Abdel-Aal had been involved in planning and executing terror attacks against Israeli civilians, including a bus bombing in Beitar Illit and a shooting attack at Huwara Junction in 2023.
In another strike, the IDF confirmed the death of Fateh Sherif, Hamas’ Lebanon branch chief. Sherif had been coordinating Hamas’ terror activities in Lebanon in collaboration with Hezbollah operatives and was instrumental in recruiting members and acquiring weapons.
These airstrikes highlight the IDF’s continued efforts to neutralize terrorist leaders and disrupt their operational capabilities in the region.
