Anand (Gujarat) [India], July 26 (ANI): Amid heavy rainfall in the state, Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel visited flood-affected areas of the Borsad area in the Anand District.

Patel inspected the area on a tractor loaded with other people.

He said, “Water has been filled in the low-lying areas due to heavy rainfall. Wherever garbage has spread, to stop the water-borne disease from spreading, the Aarogya team along with doctors are there.”

Heavy rains have caused severe disruptions across Gujarat, with flood-like situations in various districts.

Eight people have been killed due to the deluge, taking the death toll to 61, officials said on Wednesday.

Relief Commissioner Alok Pandey said that rescue operations are ongoing in Dwarka and Surat, with efforts to assist affected residents and manage the crisis.

“We are receiving continuous instructions from the Chief Minister regarding the heavy rainfall. Based on the forecast from IMD, a red alert has been issued for heavy rainfall in South Gujarat. We are actively working and have rescued several individuals in Dwarka and Surat, who have been moved to safer locations,” said Pandey.

“Unfortunately, in the last 24 hours, 8 people have lost their lives due to the rain, bringing the total death toll to 61. NDRF and SDRF teams are working tirelessly across various districts,” he added.

Anand District is also facing severe waterlogging due to continuous rainfall.

Earlier, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel conducted an aerial survey of villages in the coastal districts of Saurashtra, especially Jamnagar and Devbhoomi Dwarka, to assess the situation caused by heavy rains.

In a review meeting with officials and representatives of Devbhoomi Dwarka and Jamnagar districts, the Chief Minister guided the district administration to work with a zero-casualty approach to ensure people’s safety during heavy rains.

Due to heavy rains in the coastal districts of Saurashtra, including Devbhoomi Dwarka, Jamnagar, and Porbandar, over the past five days, waterlogging in low-lying areas has affected normal life. The Chief Minister inspected the situation in the coastal belt and affected areas of Devbhoomi Dwarka. (ANI)
