Billionaire industrialist Gautam Adani engaged in significant diplomatic and business discussions during his visit to Bhutan, where he met with Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay and King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. The visit culminated in the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the construction of a 570 MW green hydroelectric power plant in Chukha province.

Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, expressed admiration for Bhutan’s commitment to advancing infrastructure under the leadership of Prime Minister Tobgay and in alignment with King Wangchuck’s vision. He underscored the group’s enthusiasm for collaborating closely with Bhutan on hydroelectric projects and other infrastructure ventures.

During the visit, Gautam Adani also praised King Wangchuck’s eco-friendly masterplan for Gelephu Mindfulness City, which includes extensive computing centers and data facilities. Gautam Adani emphasized his eagerness to contribute to Bhutan’s initiatives, particularly in green energy management aimed at achieving carbon-negative status.

This visit builds upon Gautam Adani’s earlier engagement in November, where discussions first began regarding the Adani Group’s potential involvement in Bhutan’s green infrastructure projects. Gautam Adani expressed optimism about leveraging these opportunities to bolster bilateral ties and support Bhutan’s sustainable development goals.
