New Delhi, 8 September (HS): G-20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant said on Friday that the New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration attached to the G-20 summit will be the voice of the global south, i.e., developing countries. It has been prepared. It will be placed before global leaders for consideration. It will be released after consensus is reached.
In a special press conference held at the International Media Centre set up at Pragati Maidan before the start of the G-20 summit in New Delhi, a group of 20 largest economies in the world, Amitabh Kant said that according to the vision of the Prime Minister, India has assumed the G-20 presidency. During this time, efforts have been made to make it inclusive, ambitious, decisive, and action-oriented. We have tried to give priority to the Global South, i.e., developing countries, and help them achieve their sustainable development goals.
Amitabh Kant said that when India took over the presidency of the G-20 in Indonesia, the rate of development in the world was affected. The effect of COVID was not erased. Poverty and unemployment had increased. Countries were facing challenges in achieving their sustainable development goals. India thought of taking forward the idea of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ at such a time and tried to make the group’s efforts inclusive, ambitious, decisive, and action-oriented.
He said that our priorities related to the G-20 are to increase global growth, move fast towards sustainable development goals, promote green development, i.e., climate action, provide financial assistance to the Global South to achieve these, and provide the best technical and digital infrastructure in the world. Increase so that there is inclusive development, women’s development, and equality. Our vision has been particularly to be the voice of the Global South and to put forward their priorities.
He said that this time, more participation has been ensured in the G-20. Nineteen countries, one European Union, nine special invitees, three regional organisations, and 11 international organisations have participated in the activities. More than 220 G-20-related meetings have taken place in 60 cities in the country. It is a reflection of India’s diversity and federal structure.
