  • Shailesh Jejurikar to become CEO of global giant P&G
  • Indian-origin leaders now dominate world’s top multinational company roles

India-born corporate leader Shailesh Jejurikar is set to take over as the next chief executive officer of Procter & Gamble, marking yet another milestone for Indian-origin professionals steering some of the world’s largest corporations. Currently serving as the Chief Operating Officer at P&G, Shailesh Jejurikar will assume the CEO position on January 1, 2026, succeeding Jon Moeller. His appointment adds to the growing list of Indian executives at the helm of global giants and showcases the expanding influence of Indian talent in global corporate leadership.

A 35-Year Journey from Assistant Brand Manager to CEO

Shailesh Jejurikar’s story is a testament to long-term commitment and consistent growth. He joined P&G in 1989, the same year he graduated from the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow. Beginning his journey as an assistant brand manager, he has spent more than three decades with the consumer goods giant, steadily climbing the ranks by leading transformative business strategies across continents.

Over the years, Shailesh Jejurikar has played a central role in shaping the company’s Fabric and Home Care business, one of its largest and most profitable divisions. His leadership has been critical in driving innovation across supply chains, IT systems, and global business services. With a reputation for clear strategic vision and collaborative leadership, he has overseen growth and transformation in North America, Europe, Asia, and Latin America.

His appointment as CEO is being seen not just as a reward for his decades-long contribution to the company but also as a continuation of P&G’s internal leadership pipeline that promotes seasoned talent familiar with the company’s DNA.

A Growing Trend: Indian-Origin Leaders in Global Boardrooms

Shailesh Jejurikar’s elevation is the latest chapter in a much broader trend of India-born professionals ascending to the highest offices in multinational corporations. His name now joins an elite club that includes Satya Nadella (Microsoft), Sundar Pichai (Alphabet and Google), Shantanu Narayen (Adobe), Arvind Krishna (IBM), and Sabih Khan (Apple’s COO).

These appointments are not merely symbolic milestones; they reflect the growing value placed on global-minded leadership, diverse backgrounds, and problem-solving abilities honed in competitive environments like India’s education and business ecosystems. Indian executives have shown a knack for navigating cross-cultural complexities and global operations—traits increasingly essential in a rapidly evolving global economy.

This trend also underscores a shift in global corporate culture—one that values inclusivity, global perspectives, and deep operational expertise over more traditional markers of corporate ascent. Shailesh Jejurikar, much like his peers, embodies this shift. His leadership style has been described as people-centric, focused on inclusive growth, and grounded in operational excellence.

The increasing presence of Indian-origin CEOs also builds on a legacy paved by earlier pioneers such as Indra Nooyi, who led PepsiCo for more than a decade, and Harish Manwani, who became Unilever’s first-ever Chief Operating Officer in 2011. These trailblazers helped dismantle glass ceilings, making room for a more diverse and dynamic leadership pool on the global stage.

Interestingly, this movement isn’t restricted to just the tech and consumer goods sectors. Executives like Vasant Narasimhan (Novartis), Reshma Kewalramani (Vertex Pharmaceuticals), Sanjay Mehrotra (Micron), Anirudh Devgan (Cadence), and Leena Nair (Chanel) have expanded the footprint of Indian leadership across healthcare, fashion, microelectronics, and enterprise software.

In a world where global supply chains, regulatory frameworks, and market behaviors are increasingly interlinked, the cultural adaptability and analytical sharpness often found among Indian-origin leaders offer a strategic edge. Shailesh Jejurikar’s ascent to the top at P&G mirrors this global alignment, highlighting how companies today are leveraging cross-cultural talent to future-proof their leadership.

As P&G moves forward under new leadership, industry observers will be keen to see how Shailesh Jejurikar leverages his experience and perspective to drive growth in an increasingly competitive and sustainability-driven market landscape. His track record suggests a leadership style that combines strategic rigor with operational depth, positioning him well to guide one of the world’s largest consumer goods companies into its next chapter.
