Former NFL player Cierre Wood has been sentenced to 10 years to life in prison for the murder of 5-year-old La’Rayah Davis, whom he had subjected to severe physical punishment. Former NFL player Cierre Wood, who was in a relationship with the child’s mother, Amy Taylor, at the time of the incident, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and felony child abuse. Taylor also admitted to second-degree murder and felony child abuse and has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole.

La’Rayah Davis was admitted to the hospital in April 2019 with severe injuries, including more than 100 bruises, 20 broken ribs, and a fatal liver laceration. The young girl’s death was attributed to the extensive abuse she endured. According to investigations, Davis had been forced to perform strenuous exercises as punishment for being labeled “chunky” by Former NFL player Cierre Wood. The former NFL player admitted to making the child run sprints, do sit-ups, and perform wall squats as part of a disciplinary regimen aimed at improving her fitness.

Former NFL player Cierre Wood’s claims during the investigation suggested that the child’s injuries resulted from a fall while doing sit-ups. However, law enforcement officials and medical experts contradicted this, revealing the extent of the abuse through the child’s numerous injuries. The former NFL player described his actions as an attempt to “get her on the right path” but failed to account for the severe physical trauma inflicted.

Former NFL player Cierre Wood’s defense attorney argued that Taylor was primarily responsible for the abuse and that Former NFL player Cierre Wood was not present when the most severe injuries occurred. Despite these claims, Former NFL player Cierre Wood’s guilty plea and subsequent sentencing underscore the gravity of his actions. His eligibility for parole after 10 years reflects the court’s consideration of his plea deal, which allows him to maintain innocence while acknowledging guilt.

Taylor’s life sentence with the possibility of parole after 30 years further underscores the serious nature of the charges and the court’s decision to hold both individuals accountable for the tragic death of La’Rayah Davis. The case has highlighted issues of child abuse and the severe consequences of extreme disciplinary measures.
