  • Three foreign militants killed in Dachigam forest gunfight.
  • Joint operation by Army, J&K Police after gunfire reports.

In a high-stakes counterterrorism operation carried out in the forested hills of Dachigam near Srinagar, security forces neutralised three foreign militants believed to be affiliated with the Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba. The encounter, which unfolded after a series of gunshots were heard in the area, marked the culmination of weeks of meticulous planning and intelligence gathering by Indian Army units and the Jammu & Kashmir Police.

The gunfight took place in the upper reaches of Dachigam forest, a region known for its challenging terrain and dense cover. Early in the day, intelligence inputs hinted at suspicious movement deep inside the forest, prompting the launch of a large-scale joint combing operation. As the forces zeroed in on the suspected hideout, an exchange of gunfire erupted, leading to a fierce confrontation. By the end of the operation, three terrorists had been gunned down.

Highly Coordinated Operation Spanning Weeks

Top intelligence officials confirmed that this was not a spontaneous skirmish but rather the final act of a carefully orchestrated operation that had been in the works for nearly a month. Security forces had been tracking leads pointing toward the infiltration and movement of foreign operatives in the Dachigam region. Utilizing a combination of human intelligence (HUMINT), surveillance drones, and deep reconnaissance patrols, forces were able to isolate the location of the militants.

The terrain in Dachigam added to the complexity of the mission. With thick forests, undulating hills, and narrow pathways, the militants had selected an area that offered natural cover and escape routes. However, the coordination between Army troops and local police helped in sealing off potential exits, thereby forcing the militants into direct confrontation. Despite the challenging environment, the forces displayed tactical precision in engaging the enemy and minimizing collateral damage.

Authorities have clarified that this encounter is not linked to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, which had drawn widespread public and political attention. This operation stands alone in its intelligence roots and specific targeting of the Lashkar operatives.

Identification and Recovery Underway

Preliminary analysis and intercepted communication have confirmed that all three slain terrorists were foreign nationals. Their affiliation with Lashkar-e-Taiba underscores the continued efforts by Pakistan-based terror networks to infiltrate Indian territory and destabilize the region.

Search operations remain underway in the forested region to retrieve weapons, communication devices, and documents that could shed further light on the mission and objectives of the militants. Additionally, officials are working to confirm the identities of the deceased through biometric and forensic analysis. The recovered arms are believed to be of advanced make, typically used by trained cadres rather than local recruits, further validating the foreign link.

This development marks another chapter in India’s ongoing battle against cross-border terrorism in Jammu & Kashmir. As the region grapples with the dual challenge of ensuring security and fostering normalcy, operations like this play a critical role in disrupting the terror infrastructure before it can execute major strikes.

The successful neutralization of the militants is being seen as a morale booster for security personnel operating under constant threat and risk. More importantly, it sends a strong message to terror networks that Indian forces remain vigilant, prepared, and capable of taking pre-emptive action even in the most inhospitable terrains.

Further details are expected to emerge once the ongoing combing operations conclude and a full assessment of the site is completed.
