Billionaire Elon Musk has spent at least $132 million to support Donald Trump and Republican allies in the 2024 election, according to federal filings. Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has significantly ramped up his political donations this cycle, with his contributions focused on electing Donald Trump and boosting Republicans in key battleground states and swing districts that could help the GOP regain control of Congress.
In the final weeks leading up to the November 5 election, Elon Musk contributed an additional $56 million, bringing his total donations for the year to $132 million. The donations were disclosed in filings with the Federal Election Commission and show Elon Musk’s growing political influence. His contributions are directed toward America PAC, the super PAC he founded, which is supporting Donald Trump’s bid for the White House and Republican campaigns in the House and Senate.
Elon Musk’s donations include $43.6 million to America PAC in the first half of October alone, raising his total contribution to the PAC to $118.6 million for the year. In addition, he has funneled millions into other political groups, including $10 million to the Senate Leadership Fund, a super PAC focused on electing Senate Republicans, and $2.3 million to the Sentinel Action Fund, which supports Republican Senate campaigns in key states like Montana, Nevada, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
America PAC is focusing its efforts on increasing voter turnout for Donald Trump in battleground states and supporting Republicans in swing districts that could determine control of the House. The PAC is also running digital ad campaigns targeting young men, aiming to offset Vice President Kamala Harris’ advantage among women voters.
Elon Musk’s political activities have attracted federal scrutiny. The U.S. Justice Department recently sent a letter to his super PAC, warning that a program offering $1 million per day to registered voters in swing states who sign an online petition may violate federal laws prohibiting payments to individuals for voting or registering to vote.
In addition to Elon Musk, other major donors to America PAC include investor Nelson Peltz and members of the DeVos family, longtime Republican supporters. America PAC has spent $105 million backing Donald Trump since its launch earlier this year and had $3.3 million in cash on hand as of October 16.
Elon Musk’s role in the 2024 election is unprecedented for a political donor. Beyond his financial contributions, Elon Musk has appeared on stage with Donald Trump and hosted his own campaign rallies, emphasizing the high stakes of the election for the future of America and Western civilization.
