In the wake of an alleged assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump, billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk expressed concern over the apparent disparity in security threats among political figures. The incident occurred on Sunday in Florida, and authorities, including the FBI and the US Secret Service, confirmed that Trump was unharmed.
The Secret Service intercepted an armed individual near the boundary of Trump’s golf course, where they engaged and subdued the suspect, identified as Ryan Wesley Routh. Agents recovered an “AK-47 style rifle” with a scope and a GoPro camera at the scene. Despite the severity of the incident, it remains unclear whether Routh discharged his weapon at the Secret Service personnel.
Reacting to a social media post questioning the motive behind the attack, Musk controversially pondered why similar attempts have not targeted current President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, who is also a Democratic presidential candidate.
This provocative statement by Musk, a known supporter of Trump, comes as the former president prepares for a contentious electoral battle against Harris in the upcoming US Presidential elections this November.
The FBI has categorized the event as an “attempted assassination” and continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. This event has brought renewed attention to the effectiveness of the Secret Service, following previous criticisms of the agency’s performance.
