President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt extended warm congratulations to President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani of Mauritania over the phone on Wednesday, marking the assumption of Mauritania’s new rotating presidency of the African Union for the year 2024.
In a statement from the Presidency’s spokesperson, Counselor Dr. Ahmed Fahmy, it was emphasized that President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast support for Mauritania and expressed full confidence in President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani’s capability to discharge the responsibilities of the AU’s Chairmanship.
During their call, he (President El-Sisi) further underlined Egypt’s willingness to lend its expertise to Mauritania to bolster joint African endeavors across various domains.
“The President emphasized Egypt’s readiness to provide its expertise in this regard to the brothers in Mauritania in order to bolster joint African action across various levels,” the statement reads.
Moreover, President Ould Ghazouani, in response, also appreciated the gracious gesture from President El-Sisi and reiterated Mauritania’s commitment to maintaining close consultations and coordination with Egypt, citing the exceptional relations between the two nations.
“The Mauritanian President valued the kind gesture by President El-Sisi, reiterating his country’s keenness on holding constant consultations and coordination with Egypt, given the outstanding relations between the two countries,” the statement added.
The conversation between the two leaders also encompassed discussions on bilateral relations, with both presidents reaffirming their dedication to exploring new avenues of cooperation that align with the aspirations and interests of their respective peoples.
