On February 20th, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held a significant meeting with the Leader of Iraq’s National Wisdom Movement, Ammar al-Hakim, and his accompanying delegation. The meeting, which was attended by Director of the General Intelligence Service, Major General Abbas Kamel, highlighted the strong bonds and mutual support between Egypt and Iraq.
Counselor Dr. Ahmed Fahmy, Spokesman for the Presidency, conveyed President El-Sisi’s reaffirmation of Egypt’s unwavering support for Iraq’s security, stability, and development endeavors. President El-Sisi emphasized Egypt’s steadfast stance alongside Iraq, reflecting the deep-rooted historical ties between the two nations.
In response, Ammar Al-Hakim expressed gratitude for Egypt’s pivotal role in safeguarding the security and stability of the Arab region. He praised Egypt’s consistent support for Iraq and its genuine commitment to standing by Arab and Islamic countries during challenging times.
The meeting also addressed the pressing regional issues, particularly the conflict in the Gaza Strip. Both parties reviewed Egypt’s extensive efforts to facilitate a ceasefire and provide essential humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of the Gazan people. They underscored the necessity for the international community to fulfill its responsibilities in protecting civilians and securing a lasting ceasefire.
Furthermore, the discussions emphasized the urgency of achieving a just and comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian issue. President El-Sisi and Ammar al-Hakim warned against the escalation of tensions and its adverse effects on regional stability, highlighting the critical need for a peaceful settlement to safeguard the interests of all parties involved.
