In a bold rebuttal to recent statements made by US President Joe Biden regarding the situation in Gaza, Diaa Rashwan, Head of Egypt’s State Information Service (SIS), has praised the Egyptian Presidency’s response while asserting Egypt’s unwavering commitment to the Palestinian cause.
Describing the Palestinian issue as paramount, Rashwan emphasized that no entity benefits from unjustly tarnishing Egypt’s reputation or insinuating negligence towards the Palestinian people. In televised remarks, he underscored Egypt’s substantial aid efforts, contrasting them with the influx of US military support to Israel amid the conflict.
Rashwan raised questions about the necessity of vast quantities of weaponry supplied to Israel by the United States, questioning whether such armaments were aiding human survival or exacerbating human suffering in Gaza. With stark statistics highlighting the staggering toll of the conflict on Gaza’s population, Rashwan challenged the narrative surrounding aid distribution, particularly from the US.
“Egypt supplied 80% of the aid to Gaza. What is the amount of US aid? Are there any other crossings from Israel to Gaza that received aid from Washington?” Rashwan queried, highlighting Egypt’s significant role in alleviating the humanitarian crisis.
Furthermore, Rashwan urged President Biden to personally visit Gaza to witness firsthand the devastation wrought by the Israeli offensive. He emphasized the importance of direct observation in understanding the complexities of the situation and urged Biden to discern the parties responsible for hindering aid delivery to Gaza.
Refuting Biden’s assertions regarding the Rafah crossing, Rashwan suggested that satellite imagery could refute these claims, indicating Egypt’s consistent efforts to facilitate aid delivery throughout the conflict.
