Egypt and Tanzania are embarking on a journey to bolster their partnership in the transport sector, aiming to revitalize trade between the two African nations.
In a strategic meeting held in Dar es Salaam, high-level delegates from both governments convened to discuss opportunities for mutual cooperation and investment. Transport ministers from both sides, alongside Egyptian investors, deliberated on avenues to strengthen bilateral ties and unlock potential growth prospects.
Tanzania’s Minister for Transport, Professor Makame Mbarawa, urged Egyptian investors to consider injecting capital into the expansion of Dar es Salaam Port, particularly in the construction of berths 13 to 15. Addressing congestion issues, Prof. Mbarawa emphasized the significance of infrastructural development in facilitating smoother trade operations.
Highlighting additional investment prospects, including the Bagamoyo Port, Oil Jet development in Tanga Port, and Dry Cargo Terminal in Mtwara, Prof. Mbarawa underscored Tanzania’s commitment to enhancing its transport infrastructure, particularly with the construction of the Standard Gauge Railway.
The partnership between Tanzania and Egypt in infrastructure development, Prof. Mbarawa emphasized, would not only tackle key challenges but also unlock fresh opportunities for economic advancement.
Echoing the sentiment of cooperation, Egyptian Minister for Transport, Mr. Kamel El Wazir, underscored the historic relationship between the two countries. Accompanied by investors and business representatives, Mr. El Wazir expressed Egypt’s readiness to deepen ties with African nations and bolster trade connectivity through enhanced transport networks.
The visit of Egyptian investors follows reciprocal visits between the two countries’ presidents, signaling a shared commitment to strengthen bilateral relations. El Wazir emphasized Egypt’s eagerness to invest in Tanzania, viewing it as a pivotal gateway to other land-linked African nations.
Proposing the establishment of dry ports in Tanzania to facilitate trade with surrounding countries, Mr. El Wazir highlighted the strategic importance of cooperation between Dar es Salaam Port and Egyptian ports. Such collaboration, he stressed, would not only streamline cargo transportation but also foster closer ties between the two nations and pave the way for expanded trade within Africa.
The envisioned investment project aligns with Egypt’s long-term agenda for 2060, which prioritizes strategic investments across Africa to drive economic growth and prosperity.
