External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar, delivered a significant address today at the Inaugural Raisina Roundtable in Tokyo, wherein he articulated three key observations shaping global dynamics and underscored the strategic partnership between India and Japan.
Addressing the attendees, Dr. Jaishankar first highlighted the burgeoning trend of re-globalization, emphasizing the necessity of building resilient and reliable supply chains, alongside fostering trusted and transparent digital transactions. Notably, he emphasized the natural partnership between India and Japan in these domains, reflecting their shared commitment to fostering economic resilience and technological advancement.
Secondly, Dr. Jaishankar reiterated the unwavering commitment of India and its partners to a free and open Indo-Pacific region. He underscored the instrumental role played by the Quad alliance in advancing this shared vision, noting its growing significance with each passing year. The commitment to maritime security and regional stability remains paramount, reflecting the collective efforts of Quad member states.
Lastly, Dr. Jaishankar emphasized the foundation of trust and comfort that has been cultivated between India and Japan, serving as a catalyst for more ambitious collaboration. He expressed optimism regarding India’s remarkable progress over the past decade, envisioning even greater opportunities for partnership between the two nations.
Significantly, Dr. Jaishankar’s address coincided with his official visit to Japan for the 16th India-Japan Foreign Ministers Strategic Dialogue. Upon his arrival, he was warmly received by the Indian Ambassador to Japan, Sibi George, marking the commencement of a significant engagement aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation.
It is pertinent to note that, during the Strategic Dialogue, Dr. Jaishankar is scheduled to engage in discussions with his Japanese counterpart, Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa, on a wide array of issues spanning bilateral, regional, and global importance.
Over the past decade, the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership has witnessed remarkable deepening, particularly in areas such as defense, digital technologies, semiconductor supply chains, clean energy, high-speed rail, industrial competitiveness, and connectivity.
Earlier, in a statement released, the Ministry of External Affairs said, ” EAM’s visit and meetings in Tokyo will provide strategic guidance to our functional cooperation in these areas.”
