Delhi Metro passengers will now have a new, convenient option for their daily travels with the launch of the ‘Multiple Journey QR Ticket’ (MJQRT) facility. This new feature, available from Friday, is integrated into the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s (DMRC) existing mobile application, ‘DMRC Momentum Delhi Sarthi 2.0’.
The MJQRT functions similarly to a traditional metro smart card, allowing passengers to recharge it with amounts up to ₹3,000 according to their travel needs. Unlike the conventional smart cards, the MJQRT is a digital alternative designed to simplify the travel experience through a single QR code. This new system aims to provide a more eco-friendly and efficient method of managing metro journeys.
DMRC’s Managing Director, Vikas Kumar, officially launched the MJQRT on Thursday, highlighting its potential to enhance user convenience. The QR ticket allows passengers to view their journey details, fare payments, and recharges directly through the app. To use the MJQRT, passengers need to register on the app and start with an initial amount of ₹150, which can be used for metro travel without requiring any security deposit.
The facility offers flexibility with digital payment methods including UPI, credit cards, and debit cards, allowing users to add value in multiples of ₹50. The system also has a maximum balance limit of ₹3,000. For travel, a minimum balance of ₹60 is required, and the MJQRT provides a 10% discount during peak hours (8 am to 12 pm and 5 pm to 9 pm) and a 20% discount during off-peak hours.
The introduction of MJQRT marks a significant milestone as the first QR-based multiple-journey product in India. This innovative feature represents a shift towards more sustainable and user-friendly travel solutions, offering an alternative to traditional smart cards.
In case of loss, theft, or damage to the mobile device, passengers can retain their remaining balance and continue using the MJQRT by logging into another device. This added security feature ensures that passengers do not lose their balance, maintaining the convenience of the digital system.
The MJQRT is part of DMRC’s broader initiative to modernize fare media options, which also includes single journey QR tickets, NCMC, and traditional DMRC smart cards. This development underscores the DMRC’s commitment to improving passenger experience through technological advancements.
