New Delhi [India], October 16 (ANI): Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal approved the proposal to fire the head of the child welfare committee on Monday.

The proposal for the dismissal of the chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) was submitted by Women and Child Development (WCD) Minister Atishi. CM Arvind Kejriwal took this action, adopting a zero-tolerance policy against those who show negligence, according to a press release from the Chief Minister’s Office.

While approving the proposal, the CM said, “The Delhi government will not compromise on the care, safety, and betterment of children. Officers who display negligence will not be tolerated.”

He mentioned that the Chairperson of the CWC plays a vital role in the care and safety of children, and irresponsible behaviour by relevant individuals could have serious consequences.

Commenting on the actions taken against the Chairperson of CWC, CM Arvind Kejriwal stated that, “In the Kejriwal government, there is a policy of ‘zero tolerance’ for officials’ negligent behaviour within the administration. The Child Welfare Committee deals with highly sensitive cases related to the care and safety of children. The role of the CWC Chairperson is crucial in this regard. Therefore, any laxity or irresponsible conduct by individuals in meeting the needs of children can have serious consequences.”

“Meanwhile, WCD Minister Atishi mentioned that several complaints were received against the CWC-9 Chairperson, including delays in decision-making for critical cases involving children in need, improper conduct towards staff and committee members, misuse of powers, and issuing orders without the consent of committee members. In response, an inquiry was ordered. Based on the recommendations from the inquiry report, the government has decided to terminate the CWC-9 Chairperson with immediate effect,” as per the release.

The WCD Minister continued, “Children’s welfare is non-negotiable, and the Delhi government will continue to ensure that those in positions of authority uphold their duties with the utmost sincerity and dedication. Any laxity or misuse of power will not be tolerated at any cost.”

It is to be noted that the complaints against the Chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC)-9 include allegations of mistreatment of fellow employees and committee members, negligence in meeting the needs of children requiring care and safety, and improper behaviour. (ANI)
